I recently had the pleasure of visiting Ely for the day. I was excited to see the famous cathedral and generally find out a little more about this city. Here’s my day in photos.
The cathedral is as striking as you’d expect from the outside. As churches go, it was really expensive to go into at £8 each but we didn’t realise that this ticket actually lets you in for a whole year. Good news if you live in the area and want to worship here or simply wish to appreciate the architecture.
The ceiling is particularly impressive.
Oliver Cromwell’s house is also in the city, if you fancy a dose of local and national history, pop in.
We had a rather expensive but tasty lunch at The Almonry. The prices are a little above what you’d expect (£8 for this salad, £6 for a bacon sandwich) but the food is delicious.
Later in the day we stopped at the Samovar Tea House and were absolutely blown away. We refuelled with the prettiest tea they had and the biggest slices of cake on offer. Highly recommended.
